Dubrovnik is an old walled city with walls that have been in place since soon after the last time the city was attacked in war. That was 1991/1992. Troops from Serbia and Montenegro took positions on the hills above the city as well as in gunboats and lobbed artillery into the city without allowing time for the evacuation of civilians. They destroyed parts of the old city and it’s walls. These have been rebuilt, but with the loss of some of the medieval appearance.
We cruised around the old walled city on the afternoon of September 10 and toured the area on foot on the morning of the 11th.
